Lands:

Creatures:

Creatures are the heart of your deck, representing powerful beings that battle on your behalf. Each creature has power (attack strength) and toughness (resilience). Creatures are summoned by paying mana costs and can attack your opponent or defend against attacks.

Sorceries and Instants:

Sorceries and instants are spells that have immediate effects. Sorceries are cast during your main phase, while instants can be played at almost any time, even during your opponent's turn. These spells cover a wide range of effects, from dealing damage to drawing cards.

Enchantments:

Enchantments are magical enhancements that bestow ongoing effects on the game. They can be attached to creatures, lands, or players, influencing the battlefield in various ways.

Artifacts:

Planeswalkers:

The Color Pie:

The game is played with customized decks containing a variety of cards that represent spells, creatures, and other magical effects. Here's an overview of how a typical MTG game is played:

Objective

   - The primary goal is to reduce your opponent's life total from 20 to 0. Players lose the game if their life total reaches 0 or if they can't draw a card from their deck.

Setup:

   - Each player starts with a shuffled deck of at least 60 cards depending on game format. This deck consists of lands, creatures, and other card types.

   - Players also begin the game with a starting hand of seven cards drawn from their deck.

   - A player's deck may contain cards of various colors, and mana is generated using lands of specific types.

Turn Structure:

   - A player's turn is divided into phases: untap, upkeep, draw, main phase 1, combat phase (comprising beginning of combat, declare attackers, declare blockers, combat damage, and end of combat), main phase 2, and end step.

   - During the untap phase, a player untaps their tapped cards, readies their resources for the turn.

   - Players draw a card during the draw phase, replenishing their hand.

Deck Construction

1 Commander – A legendary creature (or a special planeswalker) that leads your deck.

99 Cards – Your deck must have exactly 99 other cards, making a 100-card deck in total.

Singleton Rule – You can only have one copy of any card (except basic lands).

Color Identity – Your deck can only include cards that match the colors of your commander’s mana cost and abilities.

Game Setup

Commander is typically played in a four-player free-for-all.

Each player starts with 40 life instead of the usual 20.

Your commander starts in the Command Zone, where you can cast it at any time (as long as you have the mana).

Turn Structure

Commander follows the standard Magic turn order:

Untap – Ready your lands and creatures.

Upkeep – Trigger any abilities that happen at the start of your turn.

Draw – Draw a card from your deck.

Main Phase – Play lands, cast spells, and set up your strategy.

Combat – Attack opponents and use creature abilities.

Second Main Phase – Play more spells and make strategic moves.

Winning the Game

Reduce your opponents’ life total to 0.

A player loses if they take 21 combat damage from a single commander over the course of the game.

Other effects (like milling out your deck) can also eliminate players.

Commander Tax

If your commander is destroyed, exiled, or otherwise removed, you can place it back in the Command Zone instead. However, each time you cast it again from the Command Zone, it costs 2 extra mana for each previous time you’ve cast it this way.
